History and Mission Statement
Since 1956, the Étienne family have devoted themselves with passion to the art of traditional French-bread making. Their mission: make the unique taste of authentic French bread known and appreciated by the general public.
Up until 1997, the year the bakery and home office on de Rouen Street was inaugurated, the bread was made in the building at 6850 Marquette Street. At the time, it was the second French bakery to open its doors to Montrealers. A popular destination, every year on Christmas Eve this bakery caused traffic jams in a normally quiet residential neighborhood. In 1991 began the numerous store openings: Peel, Laurier, Mont-Royal... Today, Boulangerie Au Pain Doré and its 12 locations employ more than 320 employees.
Because « tradition » does not necessarily mean « outdated », Au Pain Doré's team eagerly responds to the evolving tastes of customers forever on the lookout for new and innovative items. Today, Au Pain Doré offers a unique line of products throughout its 12 corporate stores in the Montreal area. A selection of our most popular creations is also available in many supermarkets, large retail stores and can be enjoyed in select catering shops or fine hotels and restaurants.
After more than 50 years of devoting itself to its passion for bread, today Au Pain Doré is an established and well-respected company. Young at heart and dynamic, it continues to uphold the tradition of superior quality and service.
